"Religion in Modernization Processes"
International Conference,
September 23-25, 2010

What happens when religion becomes knowledge? This conference will focus on the concept of knowledge as a central aspect of “Religion in Modernization Processes”. We may provisionally distinguish three aspects of the problem: knowledge of or about religion, the production of knowledge within individual religions, and religion itself as knowledge. Such an approach demands that we take account of many different considerations, meta-levels and empirical levels, reflection and praxis, the mediality of religion and knowledge of it, as well as their complex interactions.

The concept of knowledge will be the focus of this conference, to be addressed in plenary sessions as well as in the following panels, in an attempt to bring together specialists in different areas, periods and topics.

The conference starts at 9 a.m. on Thursday, 23rd September 2010, and ends at 2 pm on Saturday, 25th September
