Die Forschergruppe „Communication and Digital Media“ (COMDIGMED) ist ein interdisziplinär angelegter und international eingebundener Zusammenschluss von Forscherinnen und Forschern. Sie soll die Forschungsaktivitäten ihrer Mitglieder auf dem Feld der Kommunikationswissenschaft, der Erziehungswissenschaft, der Psychologie und der Sozialwissenschaft bündeln und unterstützen und zur Vernetzung von Forschung und Lehre beitragen. COMDIGMED ist Mitgestalter des universitären Schwerpunkts Bildung.
„Center for Empirical Research in Economics and Behavioral Sciences“ (CEREB) (only available in German)
Im „Center for Empirical Research in Economics and Behavioral Sciences“ (CEREB) arbeiten Wissenschaftler der Wirtschafts- und Verhaltenswissenschaften zusammen. Schwerpunkte sind die theoretische Modellierung menschlichen Entscheidungsverhaltens, das Design gesellschaftlicher Institutionen und Bildungs- und Berufswahlen als langfristige Selbststeuerungsprozesse. Das CEREB ist beteiligt am universitären Schwerpunkt Bildung.

Max Weber Center for Advanced Cultural and Social Studies
The research programm of the Max Weber Center for Advanced Cultural and Social Studies focus primarily on the problematic fields of religion, science, and law as interpretive powers and driving forces; interplay between cultures, societal orders, and mentalities in the face of radical change; and action-theory foundations of cultural and social sciences and their relation to normative and especially ethical questions.
DFG research training group on “Human Dignity and Human Rights”
In the DFG research training group on "Human Dignity and Human Rights", young academics affiliated with the Max Weber Center and the Ethic Center of the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena address topics related to the creation, development, and application of a key aggregate of values in modern times: human dignity, bearing in mind the history of violence, among other issues.

Die Vorhaben der Forschungsgruppe „Sprachbeherrschung“ befassen sich mit der theoriebasierten Erfassung und Förderung sprachlicher Kompetenz. Dabei sollen alle sprachlichen Modalitäten (Lesen, Hören, Schreiben, Sprechen) sowohl beim Erst- als auch beim Zweitspracherwerb in den Blick genommen werden. Die Forschergruppe ist aktiv an der Ausgestaltung des Profilschwerpunkts „Bildung“ der Universität Erfurt beteiligt.

DFG research training group "Medial Historiographies"
The DFG research training group "Medial Historiographies" deals with the reciprocal relationship between history and media. The question about a “history of media” is interlaced with the question about “historiography media”: How do different media determine the codification of historical situations and processes? And how do media and media technology each yield their own historiograph?

Die Forschungsgruppe Schul- und Unterrichtsentwicklung befasst sich mit Themen der Schul- und Unterrichtsentwicklung aus Sicht der allgemeinen Schulpädagogik, der pädagogisch-psychologischen Forschung und der Fachdidaktiken. Das Ziel der interdisziplinären Gruppe ist die Beschreibung, Analyse und Optimierung von Schulentwicklungs- und Unterrichtsprozessen unter Einsatz von empirischen Forschungsmethoden. Dabei werden die unterschiedlichen Ebenen des Schulsystems systematisch in den Blick genommen.

Forschungsgruppe Wissenskonstruktion über die Lebensspanne (only available in German)
In der Perspektive der Forschungsgruppe Wissenskonstruktion über die Lebensspanne steht Wissenskonstruktion für einen lebenslangen Prozess, der einerseits die Aneignung von Wissen, Kompetenz und Kulturgut, andererseits die Verfügung über Wissensvorräte in sozialen Handlungsfeldern umfasst. Dieser Prozess wird als subjektiv und als reflexiv verstanden, und Interaktion bzw. Kommunikation wird als Voraussetzung und Ergebnis dieses Prozesses betrachtet. Er umfasst die Verknüpfung institutioneller und individueller Verlaufsbedingungen im biographischen Sinne und schließt damit Lern- und Bildungsprozesse in institutionalisierten und nicht-institutionalisierten Kontexten ein.
