MOBILISATION OF RELIGION IN EUROPE
A project within the framework of the
funding programme 'Humanities in Dialogue with Society' of the
German Federal Ministry for Research and Education, theme
complex 'Europe – Cultural and Social Expressions of
Europe and the European.'
This project looks at the increasing
importance of religion in Europe, posing severe challenges to
politics and society. The long
anticipated disappearance of religion does not occur, as
evidenced by the long and intensive debate regarding inclusion
of Christianity in the European Constitution
or the current institutionalisation of Islam as a
European religion. Not the least, Europe
needs to react to the rise in religiously motivated terrorist acts.
This inter-disciplinary
project brings together eleven professors
from different disciplines (theology, religious studies,
political studies, sociology and history.) Ten
doctoral and three post-doctoral positions are equally funded through the
project in support of young academics.
Among the project participants, there is a strong commitment to
bring their social scientific research into a fruitful dialogue
with politics, management and
society. It is therefore an aim of the project to exchange
knowledge with those working practically in the field, to
identify the advisory needs and communicate new insights.
The Research Consortium
“Mobilisation of Religion in Europe” of the University of Erfurt,
the Friedrich Schiller University of Jena and the University of
Applied Sciences of Jena is funded over three years with a total
of € 1.5 Million. € 1.3 Million of these are earmarked for
individual projects with their main locus at the University of
Erfurt.
