Operatic Migration, Adaption, and Reception in the Enlightenment

My research project examines an international web of operatic exchange in the Enlightenment (which gave an impulse for particularly vivid cosmopolitan connections in the world of opera) from the perspective of Warsaw’s participation in the migration of repertory and performers. Within the context of European operatic circulation, I focus on the crucial aspects of theatrical activity, such as adaptation and reception. I am interested in demonstrating how the rivalry between various international troupes was an important driving force behind the development of new national operatic genres in German and Polish, whose moralistic influence on the local audiences was believed to be particularly strong.
