Lecture by Prof. Dr. Sara Burkhardt (Burg Giebichenstein) as part of the lecture series "Gardens: History, Form, Future" in the summer semester 2021. The event will be streamed on Youtube.

With the understanding that the space surrounding us is finite, the view of the garden has changed in recent decades. The boundaries of the garden have become permeable - in both directions. Animals and plants are overcoming man-made limitations, gardeners are moving into urban space: the garden is on the move. Gardens enable visions of social coexistence. On the one hand, it is about responsibility towards the environment and resources, but at the same time, designing gardens also means training in perception and productive cultural competence. And last but not least, gardens are about enjoyment, playful exploration of nature, and the formation of taste and identity.
The lecture will look at the garden from an art education perspective: What aesthetic experiences do gardens enable? What role do gardens play as places of learning? What possibilities of design do they offer in a school context? Do gardens always carry a design of society? And how does this show itself?

You can find the stream on our Youtube channel Uni Erfurt Live.

In the summer semester of 2021, the University of Erfurt and the University of Applied Sciences will once again jointly organise a public lecture series - due to Corona as an online event. This time the topic will be "Gärten: Geschichte, Gestalt, Zukunft" and is deliberately planned as a kind of supporting event for the BUGA 2021 in Erfurt.
