On July 4, 2019, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the university, the doctoral prize was awarded for the first time at the Christoph Martin Wieland Graduate Forum. The doctoral prize, which will be awarded every two years for the future, honours an excellent dissertation by a young scientist submitted to the University of Erfurt. The award includes prize money of 5,000 euros and is donated by the University Society.
Dr. Jana Ilnicka has been awarded the prize for her dissertation " Meister Eckharts achte Pariser Quästion in der zeitgenössischen Diskussion zu Relatio an der Universität in Paris 1300-1320", which was submitted to the Max-Weber-Kolleg in 2018. The work was supervised by Prof. Dr. Markus Vinzent. Based on a single manuscript, Dr. Jana Ilnicka reconstructs the horizontal relationships between individual thinkers of medieval philosophy as they met, argued, referred to each other and thus created the knowledge of their time in an intellectual centre of Europe of that time, namely the University of Paris. The ideas and debates have great actuality in terms of identity and difference, unity and diversity, and interreligious dialogue. In this way Meister Eckhart proves to be not only a historical celebrity, but also an interesting interlocutor for questions that are still relevant in today‘s societies.
The awarding of the first doctoral prize took place during the Science Fair on 4 July 2019 in the Centre for Communication and Information (KIZ). The works submitted by the faculties and the Max Weber College of the University of Erfurt were presented in individual video presentations.
