Gotha around 1800. Nature - Science - History

The research and indexing project of the Gotha Collection and Research Network as a centre of nature research networked throughout Europe. Around 1800, research and collections on astronomy and geodesy, mineralogy and palaeontology, conchyliology and ornithology were established in Gotha. The project asks what findings were made, which actors were involved and what status Gotha's research could claim within scholarly networks.

The project also uses the digital humanities tool FactGrid. The database is used for citizen science. That means, Gotha citizens help enter data that can then be used for further scientific research. In this way, a wealth of data is gradually being created that will make it possible to reconstruct "Gotha around 1800". Over time, it will be possible to search through the database to find out where exactly shoemakers and government officials in Gotha lived. The aim is to create the basis for a collectively sourced note box. Its subject: the historical Gotha.
