From September 25 to 26, 2025, the Extreme Weather Congress will take place in Hamburg, coinciding with the German Climate Management Conference (KMT). More than 40 expert talks and workshops will address specific questions on climate policies, climate action, and climate communication. The Institute for Planetary Health Behaviour will contribute with a workshop.

At a time when climate protection is losing visibility in public debate and governing parties identify only to a limited extent with climate policy, a shift in perspective is needed: climate protection and adaptation must be approached more strongly from a human-centered perspective – focusing on behaviour, motivation, social dynamics, and political realities.

Together with experts from science and politics, this workshop will develop concrete strategies on how scientific findings can be more effectively integrated into political decision-making processes or implementation at state and municipal levels.

Contributors:

  • Dr Mirjam Jenny (Institute for Planetary Health Behaviour, University of Erfurt)
  • Sarah Pelull (Institute for Planetary Health Behaviour, University of Erfurt)
  • Professor Dr Gundula Hübner (Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg)
  • Dr Sabine Fritz (Climate Service Center Germany)
  • Timm Paulus (German Federal Ministry of Health)
