German language requirements

Upon application for a Bachelor or Master degree program, all international applicants have to prove a German language level of at least B1 (CEFR). This does not apply to the following Master degree programs:

Global Communication

Public Policy

Religious Studies

Language of instruction in these programs is English.

German language proficiency test (DSH)

Prior to commencing their studies, applicants from non-German-speaking countries must take the DSH language proficiency test for admission to higher education "Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang" (DSH). A test result DSH-3 or DSH-2 is required for studies at the University of Erfurt. Foreign study applicants who have not passed the DSH test or who have obtained a DSH-1 result will only be admitted on a provisional basis; i.e. the admission is subject to the condition that they pass the DSH test before starting the programme. At the moment of application, applicants must prove German language certification at intermediate level (B1 CEFR) minimum.
