Incunabula (Cradle Prints)

Incunabula or cradle prints are prints, which were produced with movable type-letters in the time between 1450 to the year 1500.

The Research Library preserves:

  • over 1,000 incunabula from the Ducal and the Gymnasial Collection
  • 31 incunabula of the former church library P√∂ssneck,


  • many Latin theological texts from German printing places and
  • numerous prints from Venice and other European printing places.

In addition, the research library has five block books with full-page wood panel prints.


  • The incunabula are in the online-catalogue and can be viewed in the Special Reading Room.
