The offered workshop consists of two parts. In the first input we will deal with the historical-political foundations of colonialism. We ask what colonialism was and why it still shapes our lives, thoughts and actions today. In doing so, we develop simple approaches to the complex concepts of colonialism, decolonization and postcolonialism and deal with the relationship between colonialism and racism and the forms of discrimination that have grown out of it. In the second part of the workshop, we will reflect on the grade levels in which the topic can be integrated into the curriculum and which interdisciplinary approaches can be used. We will report on the project work that took place at the Perthes-Gymnasium in Friedrichroda and derive practical approaches and material suggestions for the classroom. The material can be used to develop project days as well as individual teaching blocks. The history of colonialism is developed and didactically prepared on the basis of concrete objects and stories from Thuringia. The focus is on concrete questions from the life and school world of the students and teachers: Is my school racist? What does Decolonize schools mean for our field of work and what does it take to create an easy access to the topic for teachers and students?
