The Chair of North American History is pleased to welcome Prof. Dr. Michael Pfeiferfrom the City University of New York as a visiting scholar at the University of Erfurt in the summer semester of 2021.
Professor Pfeiferworks on regional and transnational contexts of American social, legal, and cultural history. His particular focus is on the history of American collective violence, especially lynching, and the history of American Catholicism. On the latter subject, his most recent book, The Making of American Catholicism: Regional Culture and the Catholic Experience,was published by New York University Press.
In the summer semester of 2021, Professor Pfeifer will offer the master's seminar "The History of Global Lynching and Collective Violence"in the modules M12, M13 and M14 as well as the bachelor's lecture "The United States from 1865 to Present"in the module W4.
