In the summer semester of 2023, the University of Erfurt, together with the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster and the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, will organize a lecture series as part of the joint project "Journalist*innen und ihr Publikum im digitalen Zeitalter" (Journalists and their Audiences in the Digital Age). The focus is on the relationship between journalists and their audience in digital media environments.

In the 3rd session, we will take a closer look at the journalists' perspective. For this we have invited the SWR digital strategist Verena Ziegler, who, after a brief introduction by Dr. Hanne Detel, will talk about her experiences in a live interview. The focus will be on the following questions: What interaction expectations do journalists have of their audience? How can audience interaction be planned and designed so that it is profitable for all parties involved? How do journalists deal with unfulfilled expectations, such as hate speech or low audience participation?

About the series

Invited are not only students and employees of the University of Erfurt but also citizens who are interested in questions of journalism-audience relations.

In addition to the project leaders, experts from academia and journalistic practice will also speak, who will report from their respective perspectives and want to stimulate discussion. They will focus on journalists and their "audience" on online channels, user comments and hate speech, but also on the trust of the audience in the media as a whole.

The event will take place in person, but can also be followed via stream.
