In the summer semester of 2023, the University of Erfurt, together with the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster and the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, will organize a lecture series as part of the joint project "Journalist*innen und ihr Publikum im digitalen Zeitalter" (Journalists and their Audiences in the Digital Age). The focus is on the relationship between journalists and their audience in digital media environments.

Together with Dominique Heinbach from Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf, we look at the interaction potential of online communication, which can be considered the basis of a modern journalism-audience relationship. The focus is on user comments as a special form of interaction between journalists and their audience. Dominique Heinbach will report from her ongoing research projects "Constructive Discussions through Interactive Empowerment" (KODIE) and "Deliberative Discussions on the Social Web" (DEDIS).

Invited are not only students and employees of the University of Erfurt but also citizens who are interested in questions of journalism-audience relations.

In addition to the project leaders, experts from academia and journalistic practice will also speak, who will report from their respective perspectives and want to stimulate discussion. They will focus on journalists and their "audience" on online channels, user comments and hate speech, but also on the trust of the audience in the media as a whole.

The event will take place at the University of Erfurt, but can also be streamed via Webex.
