Data were collected with a survey addressing a number of different research questions, such as
- Which terms do the MFL teachers associate with intercultural competence in the language(s) they are teaching?
- Which linguistic aspects do the MFL teachers consider to be part of intercultural competence?
- Do the MFL teachers consider pragmatic competence and intercultural competence to be connected?
The book features a detailed analysis of the data in 4 results chapters that focus on components of intercultural competence, aspects of MFL teaching in higher education, the relationship between intercultural competence and pragmatics, intercultural competence and gender-neutral language, and intercultural competence in MFL teacher education.
It also includes two intercultural competence models that were developed based on the data.
It is available hardcover and electronically. The electronic version is open access.
