Welcome, Professor Riegner!

With the call to Erfurt, Riegner has "come full circle", so to speak: For he gave his first lecture at an academic conference in Erfurt ten years ago - at the annual conference of the journal „Verfassung und Recht in Übersee“, of which he is now co-editor. But Michael Rieger was also won over by the charming city, its architecture and the fact that, with the Gera, it is also a city with water. And last but not least, the manageable campus with its family atmosphere.

The law graduate comes to the University of Erfurt with ten years of research experience under his belt. In his work, he is particularly interested in the areas of international law, the global south, the comparison of constitutions and law in international organisations. But empirical work is also close to Michael Riegner's heart. He first studied in Passau and Geneva and during this time completed various internships - at the Federal Foreign Office, at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and in international law firms. From 2008 to 2011, Michael Riegner was a Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg. Later, he was a research assistant at the Justus Liebig University in Gießen. He completed his Master of Laws at New York University School of Law as a Hauser Global LLM Scholar before becoming a research assistant and doctoral candidate at Humboldt University in Berlin.He received his doctorate there with a thesis on "Information Administrative Law of International Institutions" and has led the DFG project "Varieties of Constitutionalism" since 2020.

And when he is not a professor? "Then I like to spend time with my family. I also play basketball and like to travel. Especially to film festivals. I'm a big fan of documentary film."
