Mariia Orobinska starts her UrbRel Fellowship for early career reseachers from Ukraine

Mariia Orobinska, a postdoctoral researcher at the Kharkiv National Automobile and Highway University, has started her Ukraine Fellowship with the Research Group "Religion and Urbanity" at the Max Weber Kolleg at the University of Erfurt. With its initiative for postdocs who worked at a Ukrainian university until the beginning of the war, the “Religion and Urbanity” research group seeks to enable early career researchers at risk to continue their research in an international and interdisciplinary environment.

Mariia Orobinska shortly after her arrival in Erfurt: "I highly appreciate the prompt support of Erfurt University in this extraordinary situation and also the professional attitude and empathy that I experienced when communicating with representatives of this institution".

In early March 2022, the research group "Religion and Urbanity" quickly opened a fellowship for early career researchers at risk during the current war. In addition to a monthly honorarium and accommodation, a workplace at the Max Weber Centre will also be provided. During her time in Erfurt, Mariia Orobinska will pursue a research project in the field of literature studies on the linguistic construction of cult and religious places in modern Ukrainian and British literature. She will also participate in the KFG research programme and shared events.

The Humanities Centre for Advanced Studies "Religion and Urbanity: Reciprocal Formations" (FOR 2779) is funded by the German Research Foundation. The group continuously publishes its results on the open access platform "Religion and Urbanity Online".
