University internal project funding

[Translate to English:] Person am Schreibtisch

As part of its support for research, the University of Erfurt offers its scientists advice and assistance with applications and a matching fund for strategic projects as well as support instruments from university budgets. Formats are offered for all status groups - from doctoral students to university lecturers. The various funding instruments are intended to bundle and financially support concrete ideas and initiatives for individual or collaborative projects as well as to promote university internal research structures in further networking. The primary aim is to support research ideas and projects within the framework of university priorities at an early stage and thus to open up new and innovative fields of research. The university's research priorities are to be strengthened in the long term and within this framework, the impetus for successful acquisition of third-party funding is made possible.

Startup financing for projects

This funding opportunity is aimed at all university lecturers and postdocs who are members of the University of Erfurt and are planning or applying for an individual project or projects that they wish to carry out at the University of Erfurt.

Funding of up to 5,000 EUR is possible in each case. Funding can be provided for personnel (job increases or auxiliary staff), material resources, funds for work contracts, travel costs and funds for workshops preparing applications. All activities must be completed within one year.

If the maximum funding amount has not yet been reached, funding can be applied for repeatedly for the same project.

APPLICATION AND AWARDING

Applications can be submitted at any time. The award decision is made after the application has been reviewed by the Research and Graduate Service by a vote of a member of the Senate Committee for Research and Graduate Development.

Further information, fact sheets and forms can be found under Research Service.

Co-financing of scientific events for university teachers and postdocs

This funding opportunity is aimed at all university lecturers and postdocs who are members of the University of Erfurt and wish to organise a scientific event (conference, meeting, working session). The event should also enable young scientists to exchange ideas.

In principle, a flat rate of 1,000 EUR can be applied for. If more than this is requested, a maximum of 30% of the total eligible costs can be financed. The funding cannot cover the full costs of an event. Failure financing is excluded.

Funding can be provided for personnel costs (e.g. additional staff or auxiliary personnel), room rent, travel and accommodation costs for external speakers, fees, if applicable, as well as printing costs for press and public relations work, copies and postage. Meal costs and daily allowances cannot be financed.

APPLICATION AND AWARDING

Applications can be made at any time, but must be submitted at least 3 months before the planned event. The award decision is made after the application has been reviewed by the Research and Graduate Service by a vote of a member of the Senate Committee for Research and Graduate Development.

Further information, leaflets and forms can be found under Research Service.

Co-financing of scientific events for doctoral students

This funding opportunity serves to organise scientific events (meetings, conferences, working meetings), which offer especially scientists in an early career phase the opportunity for networking or scientific exchange. As many young scientists as possible should have the opportunity to participate (organisation or participation through lectures etc.).

In principle, a lump sum of 1,000 EUR can be applied for. If more than this amount is requested, a proportional financing of the total costs is possible. The proportionate funding from the research promotion budget may not exceed 30% of the total eligible costs. Default financing is excluded.

Eligible costs are funds for student/scientific assistant hours, room rent, travel and accommodation costs for external speakers (if applicable, fees) and printing costs for press and public relations work, copies and postage. Catering costs and daily allowances cannot be financed.

APPLICATION AND AWARDING

Applications can be submitted at any time. The application must be submitted at least 3 months before the start of the event.

The award decision is made after the application has been reviewed by the Research and Graduate Services by a vote of a member of the Senate Committee for Research and Graduate Development.

Further information, leaflets and forms can be found under Graduate Service.

Matching Fund

The University's Matching Fund is a complementary financing of projects which are (to be) funded by third parties and which are carried out at the University of Erfurt. It is funded by the University's budget and its amount is determined annually by the Presidium. The Matching Fund can be used to provide funds for personnel or material expenses, even over a period of years.

Within the framework of some project funding formats from third-party funding sources (such as the BMBF or the VW Foundation), participation in research projects is often expected to be financed by the institution's "own funds". In most cases, the "own funds" are included in the budget for the duration of the implementation of the approved project. In some cases, however, prior participation or complete pre-financing of measures to prepare the project proves to be sensible and may also increase the chances of a successful application.

Funding can be applied for from the Matching Fund if participation in project plans or projects through "own funds" is necessary or useful and the other formats of university internal research funding cannot be used. Funding from the Matching Fund is allocated by the Presidium on the basis of an application that must be coordinated in advance with the Research and Graduate Service.

If you have any questions regarding the Matching Fund, please contact the head of the Research and Graduate Services, Dr. Katharina Held.
