Senate Committees

Study Committee

The student members of the Senate are looking for 2 student representatives for the Senate Committee on Student Affairs.

What is this committee and what are its tasks?

  • advises on the implementation of resolutions on study programmes and examination regulations of the individual faculties
  • prepares resolutions on quality assurance of studies and teaching

How does the work in the committee basically look like?

  • usually three sessions per semester
  • Preparation of meetings
  • Intensive discussions
  • Exchange with other (student) representatives from StuRa, student councils and faculty councils

What skills should you bring along?

  • Interest in higher education policy processes
  • Knowledge of examination law
  • Knowledge about accreditation of study programmes
  • Knowledge of the design of examination regulations and modules
  • The will to support student interests
  • Assertiveness and diplomacy
  • Knowledge of German approx. B2 (no proof required)
  • English knowledge approx. B2 (no proof required)

Which projects are currently in progress?

  • Design of the hybrid winter semester in view of the increasing corona numbers
  • Revision and adoption of examination regulations
  • Resolution of statutes on quality assurance and guidelines for study and teaching

  • Experience with library operations
  • Knowledge of the needs of the students

What is this committee and what are its tasks?

  • Advice on digitisation of research and teaching
  • Advice and support for the introduction of information systems
  • Advice on data protection and data security

How does the work in the committee basically look like?

  • One or two sessions per semester
  • Exchange with other (student) representatives from StuRa, student councils and faculty councils

What skills should you bring along?

  • Technical and legal knowledge in the field of digitisation and data protection
  • Knowledge of the needs of the students
  • Assertiveness and diplomacy

Committee on Budgets

The student members of the senate are looking for a student representative for the budget committee of the senate.

What is this committee and what are its tasks?

  • Decides on the annual distribution of budgetary resources, investments, purchases
  • Comment on equipment and distribution of funds
  • Prepares fee schedule
  • Decided (by student majority!) on the use of funds from long-term study fees

How does the work in the committee basically look like?

  • usually three sessions per semester
  • Exchange with other (student) representatives from StuRa, student councils and faculty councils

What skills should you bring along?

  • Interested in the higher education policy contexts at the faculties, the university and in the state of Thuringia
  • Knowledge of the needs of the students
  • Assertiveness and diplomacy

Diversity Advisory Board

The Student Council is looking for two students to join the delegation to the Diversity Advisory Board, who want to stand up for the students!

What is this committee and what are its tasks?

  • composed of various leading representatives of the university community
  • Development & updating of a diversity strategy for the university
  • Establish / strengthen a culture of diversity in the fields of action:     study and teaching, research, consulting, administration and infrastructure

How does the work in the committee basically look like?

  • advises the Presidium and the Diversity Officers on fundamental issues of diversity (e.g. framework conditions, objectives and possibilities for dealing constructively with diversity; measures to protect against discrimination)
  • promotes diversity-sensitive culture on campus
  • two sessions per semester

What skills should you bring along?

  • Interest in diversity-sensitive issues
  • Awareness of being a representative of a highly diverse student body (language, origin, political/religious worldview, health, marital status, etc.)
  • Knowledge of German approx. B2 (no proof required)

Erfurt School of Education Council & Master of Education Examination Board

For the delegation to the ESE Council and the M.Ed. Examination Board, the Student Council is looking for two students from an ESE degree programme who want to be involved in this programme for the benefit of the students!

What is this committee and what are its tasks?

  • Decision-making body of the Erfurt School of Education (ESE)
  • Quasi "Faculty Council" for the ESE
  • Consultation and decision especially about course offerings
  • De facto simultaneously M.Ed. Audit Committee

How does the work in the committee basically look like?

  • Advice on course offerings and their structure
  • Bringing student perspectives into the discussion
  • Decisions on student complaints

What skills should you bring along?

  • Knowledge of the ESE's offer and structure
  • Basic understanding of examination law at the University of Erfurt (what works, what doesn't work? )
  • Helpful contact with relevant students and other committee members
  • Knowledge of German approx. B2 (no proof required)

Mensa (Canteen) Committee

The StuRa (student council) is looking for two students to join the delegation Mensa Committee, who want to work for the students!

What is this committee and what are its tasks?

  • Unofficial committee consisting of canteen staff, students and other university groups

How does the work in the committee basically look like?

  • Discussing the offers, activities and design of the gastronomic facilities of the Studierendenwerk
  •  In particular, the wishes of students should be taken into account

What skills should you bring along?

  • You do not have to be a connoisseur
  • Bring a good mood
  • Familiarise yourself with the offer of the canteen, glass box and lecture hall 7
  • Knowledge of German approx. B2 (no proof required)

Which projects are currently in progress?

  • "Heuschreckenburger" as an experimental project
  • Discussion about the relationship between meat, vegetarian and vegan offerings

International Advisory Board

The Student Council is looking for two students to join the delegation to the International Advisory Board, who want to stand up for the students!

What is this committee and what are its tasks?

  • Advises the central offices of the university in the area of internationalisation (e.g. the Presidential Board, Senate and Faculty Councils)

How does the work in the committee basically look like?

  • Networking of important actors
  • Mutual consultation and agreement
  • Development of common strategies and positions

What skills should you bring along?

  • Being able to represent the perspectives of international students in a comprehensive manner
  • Networking with international students
  • Knowledge of the student structures of the Willy Brandt School and Global Communication
  • Knowledge of German approx. B2 (no proof required)
  • English knowledge approx. B2 (no proof required)
  • General understanding of the university structures desirable

The student council is looking for two students to join the delegation to the Latinum/Graecum examination board.

What is this committee and what are its tasks?

  • Examination board for Latinum and Graecum
  • Monitors compliance with formal standards
  • Complaints office for students

How does the work in the committee basically look like?

  • Decision on admission to the supplementary and special tests
  • Composition of the examination boards
  • Decision on complaints from students

What skills should you bring along?

  • Basic understanding of examination law at the University of Erfurt (what works, what doesn't work? )
  • Experience with the relevant language courses and examinations
  • Possibly students from the catholic-theological faculty
  • Helpful contact with relevant students and other committee members
  • Knowledge of German approx. B2 (no proof required)

Which projects are currently in progress?

  • For a year there has either not been a meeting or the students have not been invited, ergo: Demand student participation!

Free association of student communities (fzs)

The student council is looking for two students as main delegates and two students as secondary delegates for the delegation to the fzs, each with equal representation of the sexes, who want to stand up for the students in the fzs!

What is this committee and what are its tasks?

  • Umbrella organisation of student bodies in Germany
  • represents the interests of students at federal level
  • organises workshops and seminars, offers a platform for networking between student bodies and is active throughout Germany

How does the work in the committee basically look like?

  • usually one general meeting per semester, at which motions are introduced, discussed and voted on
  • also election of the board, committee members, etc.
  • voluntary: various committees and working groups that develop positions and topics
  • relaxed, open-minded and relatively stress-free working atmosphere

What skills should you bring along?

  • Interest in higher education policy, especially at federal level
  • Initial experience in committee work, especially at the university (FSRs, faculty councils, etc.)
  • Sensitivity to the needs and interests of students
  • Want to play an active role (debating proposals or writing them yourself)
  • Voluntary: Interest in participating in committees and working groups
  • Knowledge of German approx. B2 (no proof required)
  • English knowledge approx. B2 (no proof required)

Which projects are currently in progress?

  • Corona pandemic: critical and effective public relations work with the Ministry of Education and its "emergency aid".
  • Demands of a solidarity semester for all
  • Content orientation of the association is always an issue
  • Changes in higher education legislation, educational equity and all other higher education policy matters
  • BaföG, more student housing and democratic participation at universities

Board of the Language Centre & Language Examination Board

The student council is looking for two students to join the board of the language centre, who want to stand up for the students!

What is this committee and what are its tasks?

  • advises and decides on fundamental matters of the Language Centre
  • Prepares amendments to examination regulations that affect the range of languages offered
  • Is also the examination board for language tests (except: Latinum/Graecum)

How does the work in the committee basically look like?

  • Usually one session per semester
  • Bringing student perspectives into the discussion
  • Further meetings or circulation procedures depending on the complaint
  • Decisions on student complaints

What skills should you bring along?

  • Knowledge of the range of languages on offer and experience in language courses
  • Contact especially to the philologies and other fields of study with language courses as compulsory courses
  • Basic understanding of examination law at the University of Erfurt (what works, what doesn't work? )
  • Knowledge of German approx. B2 (no proof required)
  • English knowledge approx. B2 (no proof required)

Studium Fundamentale Examination Board

The StuRa is looking for two students from the bachelor's programme to join the delegation to the StuFu examination board.

What is this committee and what are its tasks?

  • Examination board for the StuFu courses
  • Monitors the compliance with formal standards for exam performances in the StuFu
  • Complaints office for students
  • Curriculum of the StuFu programme

How does the work in the committee basically look like?

  • Usually one meeting per semester, in which the curriculum is decided
  • In concrete terms: print out Excel tables in A3 and look through them
  • In particular, identify and address inadmissible examination formats
  • Further meetings or circulation procedures depending on the complaint
  • Decisions on student complaints

What skills should you bring along?

  • Basic understanding of exam-law and student-body rights at the University of Erfurt (what works, what doesn't work? As to what extend can the professor autonomously act or decide?)
  • Knowledge of the StuFu programme and experience in StuFu courses
  • Knowledge of German approx. B2 (no proof required)
  • English knowledge approx. B2 (no proof required)

Which projects are curretnly in progress?

  • The Committee has for some time been looking for a new chairman/chairwoman
  • New requirements from the B-RPO (B-RPO: Bachelor-Rahmenprüfungsordnung = exam regulations catalogue) 2019 must be implemented
