Announcement by the Student Services Organisation: Semester contribution and meal prices increase

The Thuringian Student Services Organisation (Studierendenwerk) announced in a press release today that both the semester contribution for students and meal prices will increase. The background to this is that the funding provided to the Thuringian Student Services Organisation (Studierendenwerk) by the Free State of Thuringia for 2025 will be reduced by around 800,000 euros next year.

From the summer semester 2026, the semester contribution for the Student Services Organisation will increase by ten euros and will then amount to 95 euros. This means that the Thuringian Student Services Organisation will remain below the national average of 103.96 euros. According to the press release, the increase in the semester contribution is intended to ensure that the wide range of services offered by the Thuringian Student Services Organisation, which are in high demand, can be maintained.

Meal prices, on the other hand, will only increase for employees and guests of the Thuringian universities – and from the new year onwards in the following scales:

  • Meal prices from the two cheapest price categories will increase by 40 cents each (for employees to 4.40 euros and 4.60 euros; for guests to 5.80 euros and 6.00 euros).
  • The meal prices for categories 3 and 4 will increase by 30 cents each.
  • The meal prices for categories 5 and 6 will increase by 20 cents each.
  • From category 7 (for employees: 6.20 euros; for guests: 7.60 euros), the meal prices will remain unchanged for employees and guests.

In addition, the Student Services Organisation has announced that individual items such as the use of flexible childcare will be adjusted for employees and external guests.
