Discussion with Olaf Simons (Gotha Research Centre) as part of the FactGrid Coffee Talk series.

Can students use the FactGrid?

A resounding yes - the FactGrid is open to anyone who wants to handle historical data in a collectively open database. You can get any data you want from the FactGrid and store any of your own data in it, thus keeping it fresh.

However, you should not underestimate yourself: data gearing research is rather research that takes a long time to complete - unless you evaluate existing data (which you can bring in from other sources and process according to your own interests).

What do you have to consider? What do you have to be able to do? What difficulties arise as soon as one enters the field of digital humanities?

About the event series

The University of Erfurt invited us to organise an online coffee-talk series on FactGrid as a collaborative research platform in the coming summer semester. We have selected nine main topics. The events are meant to be short and made for the lunch break to take a peek. Get inspired. We offer a 15-minute exploration with an open Q&A session in each case.
