Im Schrank Translated from Czech by Martina Lisa
Tereza Semotamová, born in 1983, is an author, publicist and translator. She studied German Studies and Screenwriting, writes radio plays, features and columns, translates German-language literature into Czech, teaches and works for the German-Czech platform já-du. "Im Schrank" is her first novel; excerpts were published in German for the first time in the anthology "Die letzte Metro" (Voland & Quist 2017).
A young woman moves into a closet. Worn out and creaky, it stands in a Prague backyard, winter approaching. It is her space. And it is the radical decision to withdraw from all constraints, even from all security, the result of too many failed attempts to adapt.
Tereza Semotamová reconstructs the sometimes absurd, sometimes bitter episodes of that search for one's own way in a world in which no one knows exactly where things are going anymore.
