Uni Erfurt once again awarded as a family-friendly university

The University of Erfurt has once again been awarded the berufundfamilie/family-friendly university audit certificate for its commitment to improving the compatibility of work and family. The certificate, awarded by berufundfamilie gGmbH, an initiative of the non-profit Hertie Foundation, which serves as a strategic management tool for the sustainable improvement of a family-conscious personnel policy, was presented online on 22 June 2021.

The University of Erfurt had previously successfully gone through the dialogue procedure for the audit, which is open to employers who have been pursuing a strategically designed family- and life-phase-conscious personnel policy for at least nine years with the audit. The university was awarded the audit certificate for the first time in 2005, and it has been valid for three years. The re-audits were now followed by the dialogue procedure, which is rewarded with the certificate with a permanent character, in the meantime the second dialogue procedure, through which the permanent character of the certificate has now been confirmed.

"For many years, our university has been committed to a family-friendly personnel policy and family-friendly study conditions and has now successfully undergone several re-audits. Much has been achieved to date", says Professor Katharina Waldner, the University of Erfurt's Deputy Equal Opportunities Officer. "For example, there is the 'Study and Raise' card, which is intended to point out the double burden, as well as the option for children up to the age of six to receive free lunch, to name just two examples. It remains the university's endeavour to fill the 'Audit Family-Friendly University' seal with life and to keep the needs of university members with family responsibilities in mind. In order to achieve the goal of family-friendliness as a component of a lived campus culture, the university management is therefore making great efforts."

Background Audit family-friendly university

Applicable in all sectors and different company sizes, the audit, which is carried out every three years, records the status quo of the measures already offered for a better balance between work and family, systematically develops the company-specific potential and ensures that family awareness is anchored in the corporate culture with binding target agreements. The certificate for the audit berufundfamilie or audit familiengerechte Hochschule serves as proof of the successful completion of this process - and as a seal of quality: the audit, which is under the patronage of the Federal Minister of Family Affairs and the Federal Minister of Economics, is recommended by the leading German business associations BDA, BDI, DIHK and ZDH. The practical implementation of the measures is reviewed by berufundfamilie gGmbH. After three years, further goals can be agreed upon in a re-audit. Only if the re-audit is successful may the employer continue to hold the certificate unchanged.
