Loan period

Lending media
The loan period for books and other media from the reading room, textbook collection and closed stacks is 28 days.
Books from the textbook collection can only be borrowed by members of the University of Erfurt.

 

Media not for loan

  • reference works
  • journals and newspapers
  • course readers and reference collections

These items are for use only in the library. Books and journals published before 1851 can be consulted in the special reading room.

The loan period can be renewed twice if the item

  • has not been reserved by another reader
  • your user account has not been blocked

If you need items for a longer time, please return them to the issue desk for further borrowing.

E-mail reminder
Students of Erfurt University and all readers who have registered their e-mail addresses will receive a notification two days before borrowed items are due to be returned. Please note that you are responsible for returning items on time even if e-mails do not arrive.

Reservation

Books/media on loan to another user can be reserved on the online catalogue or Discovery by entering your user number and password. As soon as the reserved medium is ready for collection, you will find a notification in your user account.
Students and staff of Erfurt University are notified in addition by e-mail. All other users leaving an e-mail address are also notified free of charge. For notifications by post reservation fees are charged (postage).
It is possible to cancel your reservation yourself in your user account.

Overdue fees

Overdue fees are charged if items are not returned in time:

  • 1st overdue notice: € 1,50 per item
  • 2nd overdue notice: € 2,50 per item in addition
  • 3rd overdue notice: € 4,00 per item in addition

Before the second or third overdue notice is sent, there is a period of ten days within which items can be returned or renewed at the issue desk. Overdue notices to students and staff are sent by e-mail only.
Please pay fees at the self-service payment machines in the foyer of the library or in cash at the issue desk.

Loss of media or library card

Loss and damage of media
Please contact the issue desk if you have lost or damaged borrowed media.

Loss of the user card or the thoska
Please contact the information desk immediately if you miss your user card or thoska.

Cancellation/Exmatricualtion

Before cancelling your library membership all borrowed items and the library card must be returned and all outstanding debts must be settled.

If you would like to continue using the library after exmatriculation please contact the issue desk.
