The national scholarship programme of the Federal Government is aimed at all first-year students as well as students already enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's programme. The scholarships are awarded according to talent and performance, usually for a period of two semesters. In addition to previous achievements, social commitment, the willingness to take on responsibility or special social, family or personal circumstances are also taken into account. The scholarships, which amount to 300 euros, are financed half by the Federal Government and half by companies, foundations, associations or private sponsors. The University of Erfurt awarded the first Deutschlandstipendien in 2012.
