New regulations within the framework of the SARS-COV-2 occupational health and safety ordinance

We would like to take this opportunity to inform you about the current SARS-COV-2 occupational health and safety regulation issued by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, under which the following regulations will also apply at the University of Erfurt from 27 January 2021:

If rooms have to be used by several people at the same time, at least 10 m² must be available per person.

In addition, employers must provide at least medical face masks. In order to be able to determine the requirements at the University of Erfurt, Department 4: Facility Management is asking all heads of department to provide feedback on how many employees are regularly on site each week. (Note on mouth-nose protection: The mouth-nose coverings already issued by the university and the DIY masks may continue to be used).

According to Clause 3 (Mouth-Nose Protection), Paragraph (1) of the SARS-COV-2 Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, the employer must provide medical masks if:

  • the requirement for room occupancy cannot be met;
  • the minimum distance of 1.5 m cannot be maintained; or
  • hazards due to increased aerosol emissions are to be expected during the work carried out.

We ask for your attention.
