VPN access to the campus network

From now on, employees and students of the University of Erfurt can also access the campus network from home via a so-called VPN access.

Access is activated on the basis of the open source application eduVPN. Documentation on setting up and using eduVPN can be found via the following link on the URMZ website:

https://www.uni-erfurt.de/universitaetsrechen-und-medienzentrum/beratung-und-hilfe/weiteres/vpn. A separate application for this service is not necessary. The VPN access can be used with the already known user account (Uni-Login).

Please urgently observe the usage guidelines.

What is VPN?

With a "virtual private network", or VPN for short, you can access your private or local network - in this case the University of Erfurt network - while on the move. For example, if you are on a business trip or in your home office, you can use VPN to access the campus network to retrieve a presentation or file. You establish a connection to the internet and then dial into the VPN network using the software. Now you can work as if you were in the office, even though you are not on campus.

The advantage: Via a VPN connection you can use all the services that can only be used in your private or professional network. Especially in companies, there are often programmes that can only be used in the intranet. You can then also access these from outside. In addition, you have access to all locally stored files. These do not have to be synchronised after your return.
