University Council
The University Council makes recommendations on the University's profile, the focus of research and teaching, and the further development of course offerings. In addition, its tasks include statements (e.g. on the Basic Regulations and their amendments, on the conclusion of target and management agreements, on the principles of funding), the confirmation of the economic plan and significant amendments to it, the resolution and approval of the annual financial statement as well as the discharge of the Presidium, the acceptance of the annual report of the Presidium, decisions in accordance with §§ 5 and 6 of the Thuringian University Remuneration Ordinance as well as participation in the selection, election and deselection of the President and the Head of Administration.
Senate
The Senate's tasks are derived from § 35 of the Thuringian Higher Education Act. Accordingly, the Senate is responsible, among other things, for enacting and amending the basic regulations, for electing the members of the University Council, for granting approval for the appointment of Vice-Presidents and for granting approval prior to the conclusion of the university's target and performance agreements with the Ministry. Furthermore, the Senate decides on the establishment, amendment and discontinuation of degree programmes and comments on appointment proposals. The Senate draws up the equal opportunity plan, elects the Equal Opportunity Officer and the Diversity Officer. In addition, it gives its consent to the principles of funding and comments on the draft economic plan, the annual financial statement, fee and remuneration regulations and the annual report of the Presidium.
