Health weeks to support students

The corona situation in Germany is slowly easing, but the summer semester at the University of Erfurt will largely be completed in digital formats. To help in this situation, the university health management and the students, with the support of the University Sports Club (USV), the Student Services Organisation (Studierendenwerk) and the AOK PLUS, have prepared a programme entitled "Fit for the exams" from 21 June to 2 July.

For example, two courses entitled "Learning Strategies & Time Management" are primarily concerned with teaching reading and learning techniques, procrastination and time management to enable efficient exam preparation. The courses "Gelassen in die Prüfung" (calm in the exam) aim to avoid or reduce exam anxiety in order to ensure performance in an exam.

Three online taster courses and two face-to-face courses are offered by USV. In "Iron Mind – Strategy", the mind is strengthened and concentration and attention are enhanced through meditation. In the sporty "BODEGA course", yoga and Pilates exercises are combined for a holistic workout. "Athleticflow" – the new fitness trend" – combines typical HIIT training sessions with yoga.

Students can try out the trendy sport "spikeball" (smash ball) on the beachball facility. The outdoor course "functional-fit" on the Calisthenicspark and the beach volleyball court combines exercises with one's own body weight and fitness game forms that promise lots of fun.

The "active break" prevents muscular tension in the shoulder and neck area and back problems. The digital break course, which offers exercises to improve strength and flexibility combined with simple forms of exercise for stretching and relaxation, can be completed at the workplace.

And in the "Let Go" workshop, participants learn progressive muscle relaxation together with the communication psychologist Marcel Wich from Erfurt – a scientifically based and easy-to-learn relaxation technique.

There are also two application-oriented and interactive offers on the topic of resilience especially for the exam period – organised by students for students as part of the Health Management seminar. The workshop with Marcel Wich and the interactive lecture with evidence-based exercises and exciting findings from research by Dr. Donya Gilan from the Leibniz Institute for Resilience Research promise exciting findings from research as well as helpful tips from experts on how to strengthen individual resilience.

The new health newsletter, which you can find on the university health management website, provides information about the entire programme. You can also find all the dates in the events calendar on the University of Erfurt website.
