Evans Tindana Awuni

Short Biography

Evans is a political economist with strong passion, skills and experience in international development, teaching and consulting. In his current research project (at the Gerhard Haniel Chair of International Development and Public Policy) he focuses on Africa, examining the drivers of growth in contemporary Sub-Saharan Africa, with a special focus on digitalisation, peace and poverty. His research interests include technological change, growth & socioeconomic development, social policy, poverty, sustainability, among others. He is versatile, excellent in statistical modelling using SPSS, STATA and R, a brilliant communicator with admirable presentation, facilitation, teamwork and project management skills.

Prior to joining the Willy Brands School, Evans enjoyed research spells at both the German Development Institute (GDI) (now German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS)) and the German Institute of Global and Area Studies (GIGA), the later where he (is still affiliated to and) participated in field research projects (with experimental components) in Liberia and Ghana on Religion, Conflict and Sustainable Peace. He has also tutored in various subjects including Multivariate Analysis, Microeconomics, Labor Economics, Statistics, etc.

While Evans held a doctoral scholarship from the Claussen-Simon Stiftung in Hamburg from October 2020 to September 2023, his Master of Arts degree in Public Economics, Law & Politics from the Leuphana University of Luneburg was attained through the DAAD Helmut Schmidt Scholarship for Public Policy and Good Governance (PPGG) 2017-2019. At the Leuphana University, he was awarded the DAAD prize for best international student. His master thesis centred on the vulnerability of Ghana’s middle class to poverty. Evans obtained his bachelor’s degree in Integrated Development studies, with specialisation in Economics and Entrepreneurship Development, from the University for Development Studies in Ghana.
