Colloquium: "The transformation in East Germany using the example of the 'VEB für Fernsehelektronik' in Berlin"

As part of its colloquium in the winter semester 2021/22, the research association "Dictatorship Experience and Transformation" invites you to the next digital event on Thursday, 11 November, at 4 pm. Dominik Stegmayer will speak about "Transformation 'from above', transformation 'from below'. Transformation in East Germany using the example of the "VEB-Werk für Fernsehelektronik" in Berlin.

Dominik Stegmayer is researching the diverse paths and upheavals that the former state-owned industrial enterprise "VEB-Werk für Fernsehelektronik" and its employees experienced as a result of the opening of the market in 1990. These shock effects of the transformation become very clear in the occupational biographies of former workers - not only was the secure job along with the social network suddenly missing, but the thinking of homo oeconomicus (Pierre Bourdieu) also had to be painstakingly practised.

The speaker, Dominik Stegmayer, studied socio-economics and economics at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration and the University of Illinois, as well as history and sports science (teaching degree) at the University of Vienna. He is doing his PhD at the newly founded Research Center for the History of Transformations (RECET) at the University of Vienna.

The colloquium will take place digitally via the Cisco Webex platform. Meeting room: uni-erfurt.webex.com/meet/DuT_UE. No separate prior registration with Webex is necessary, you can join the meeting directly via your browser.
