Why is speech training offered at all?

The vocal and speech training at the University of Erfurt is fundamental with regard to later work in the pedagogical speech profession. These appointments require a continuous and intensive daily speaking performance.

The following questions may arise:

  • In which situations do I use my voice and how?

  • How do I keep my voice healthy?

  • How do I train my voice so that I can teach for 30 to 40 years?

  • Am I suitable for the teaching profession in terms of my voice and speech?

Am I vocally suitable for a pedagogical speaking profession?

Speech training serves to teach the basics of voice and speech. Existing voice, speech and language disorders cannot be treated during the course. For this purpose, there is cooperation with medical specialists, speech therapists, clinical speech scientists or academic speech therapists, so that therapy can be followed up if necessary.

In order to determine suitability for a pedagogical speech profession, the subject area Speech and Language Education recommends a phoniatric expert report before starting the programme.
