The Friends of the Gotha Research Library of the University of Erfurt invite you to the performative reading "Amerika ist nicht so groß!" (America is not that big!).

The author Maryam Goudarzi worked with the Gotha Research Library's collection of emigration letters as part of the Gotha Library Scholarship in 2023. "Amerika ist nicht so groß!" is a semi-documentary two-person play based on information and personalities from the letters in the Gotha Research Library.

Experience a journey through history by travelling with us to New York to see how big America can really be. America is not that big challenges you to look at the homeland and migration from a new perspective. Inspired by 19th and 20th century letter archives, the story tells of two German immigrants waiting in New York harbour for a ship from Hamburg. They want to find out whether New York is the end of the world or whether emigration will continue.

Due to limited capacity, please register by 23 April at info@fk-fbgth.de.

The event is sponsored by the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Thuringia. The play will also be performed at the Erfurt Theatre on 26 April.
