Placement test (DPT)

Registration for the DPT

The next opportunity to take the placement test for English (Dynamic Placement Test = DPT) will be announced here in due course. You can then register for the placement test via Moodle.

https://elearning.uni-erfurt.de/course/view.php?id=21909

Enrolment key = UE_2026_SoSe

As the test does not take place until the end of the first week of lectures, you must already apply for a course without knowing for sure whether your language skills are sufficient for admission. Nevertheless, this is currently the regular procedure. The late date for the placement test is due to the fact that most students do not arrive in Erfurt until the first week of lectures. Experience has shown that an appointment before the start of the summer semester is rarely taken. As a first orientation you can make a free online test test, for example: https://www.efset.org/ef-set-50/

LKI courses

Students of English and American Studies must take two LKI courses to complete their O-Phase. We offer LKI courses for a module examination grade (MP) and LKI courses for qualified participation (qT). You can take the following two combinations of LKI courses:

  • 2 LKI courses with MP,
  • 1 LKI course with MP and 1 LKI course with qT.

A combination of 2 LKI courses with qT is not possible, as otherwise an LKI module examination grade would be missing.

LKI courses for one MP grade

LKI courses for a qT

Students of other degree programmes can take some of these courses under module ZS 801-Spr en #01.

General information

Students who apply for an exchange programme (e.g. Erasmus) via the International Office of the University of Erfurt and have to prove their language skills may take our B2 examination. A concrete application plan (destination country and destination university) must be submitted with the application, even if the application deadline at the International Office has not yet begun.

The B2 examination for applications for an exchange programme at the University of Erfurt is only offered at the end of the winter semester. For most exchange programmes, a B2 certificate is sufficient. If the chosen partner university requires a C1 certificate, please enquire there which certificates are recognised. You may have to submit an internationally recognised certificate (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge) for a fee.

Level B2 exam

The examination consists of a written and an oral part. The written part tests the skills of listening, reading, writing and grammar, while the oral part comprises an approx. 30-minute interview. The examination is deemed to have been passed if the overall grade for the sub-areas is at least 4.0. A certificate can be issued on request.

Participation in an English course to prepare for the exam is recommended.
