Our language courses are aimed at students in Thuringia, with the aim of enabling them to earn credits towards their study regulations or to fulfil other academic requirements. Unfortunately, non-students are not eligible to take part in our language courses. The registration process for elocution courses is the same as for language courses.

Registration for language courses takes place via Moodle and MOSES, depending on the language. Registrations by email will not be accepted.

Unfortunately, guest student status is only available for lectures, but not for language courses.

Enrolment via Moodle

Languages: Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew, Japanese, Portuguese, Czech and Turkish

Enrolment for the language courses takes place in three phases:

1. During the first enrolment phase (from 1 October 2026, 10.00, until 4 October 2026, 6.00 pm), students who have already successfully completed one of our language courses and wish to continue at a higher level (from A2 onwards) may enrol.
2. During the second enrolment phase (from 8 October 2026, 4.00 pm to 9 October 2026, 6.00 pm), students with no prior knowledge can enrol on A1-level courses. Enrolment for all other courses (from A2 onwards) is also possible again during this period.
3. During the third enrolment phase (from 16 October 2026, 4.00 pm, to 20 October 2026, 6.00 pm), courses with available places will be reopened for enrolment. During this period, all students can enrol for any remaining places that may be available.

Enrolment via MOSES

Language: English

Places on the English courses are allocated via the new course allocation system (MOSES by MathPlan). When making your choices, please ensure you distinguish between options for English language students (with English as a major or minor subject) and options for all other students.

Students in their 3rd semester or above who have already taken a placement test or successfully completed a language course at the University of Erfurt can log in here using their usual login details (Shibboleth) and specify their course preferences from 1 October 2026 to 4 October 2026. Course places will then be allocated on 6 October 2026, taking into account all priorities submitted – fairly and regardless of the time of submission – and published directly in MOSES. Once the results have been published, you will have the opportunity to return any allocated course places that you do not wish to take up. This will allow these places to be reallocated during the second allocation phase, from 7 October 2026 to 8 October 2026. If you have not been allocated a place, you will have another opportunity to specify your preferences during this second phase. The results will be published by 9 October 2026 at the latest.

First-semester students may submit their course preferences from 7 October 2026 to 8 October 2026. Students in higher semesters who have not yet completed a language course at the University of Erfurt must take the placement test (6 October 2026 to 8 October 2026) and may then also submit their course preferences from 7 October 2026 to 8 October 2026. You can find more detailed information about the placement test here. The results will be published on MOSES on 9 October 2026. 

Please do not contact lecturers regarding remaining course places during the registration periods. 

Please also note that course allocation is not on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. Places are allocated on the basis of the preferences stated at the time of registration, with the aim of finding the best possible overall solution for all students, whilst taking into account any potential timetable conflicts. It is therefore not guaranteed that you will be allocated your first or second choice, particularly for very popular courses. Furthermore, all language courses have a maximum of 20 participants. Some courses, such as Spoken American/British English, have even fewer places available.

Language: Speech Training

Places on speech training courses are allocated via the new course allocation system (MOSES by MathPlan), which the University of Erfurt is currently trialling with selected courses. You can log in here (https://kurve.uni-erfurt.de) using your usual login details (Shibboleth) and specify your course preferences from 1 October 2026 to 4 October 2026. Course places will then be allocated by 6 October 2026 at the latest, taking into account all priorities submitted – i.e. fairly and independently of the time at which you submitted your preferences – and the allocation results will be published directly in MOSES. Should there still be any remaining places, you will have another opportunity to specify your preferences until 8 October 2026 following publication. The results of the second allocation will be published by 9 October 2026 at the latest. 

Languages: Spanish, French, Italian, Russian

Students in their first semester or above who have no prior knowledge of the language may submit their course preferences from 7 October 2026 to 8 October 2026. Students with prior knowledge of the language who have not yet completed a language course at the University of Erfurt must take the placement test (6 October 2026 to 8 October 2026). You can then submit your course preferences by 8 October 2026, based on your test score. The results will be published on MOSES by 9 October 2026 at the latest.

Please proceed as follows:

1. Enrol in the relevant Moodle course room; enrolment code: SPZ_WiSe2026
2. Complete the pre-registration form and select your desired language level.
3. You now have access to the section for the relevant level, which contains the ‘Group selection’ activity. Open this and select your preferred course.

4. Select ‘Save my choice’. You are now registered. You will receive a confirmation from Moodle.

   Once you have enrolled, you will no longer be able to enrol for another course in that language. If you wish to change your course choice, please inform the SPZ Service (by email, see below) of your request.

Please note:  

• Enrolment on Moodle does not constitute final admission to the course.
• Registrations by email will not be accepted.
• You must attend the first session of the course, otherwise you will lose your place on the course!
• Fair play – please enrol in a maximum of 2–3 language courses. Only choose as many language courses as you can realistically manage.
• Check the ‘News’ pages for each language regularly for updates.
• Lecturers decide on final admission to the course, taking into account individual circumstances (e.g. marks in the placement test, subject, stage of study, multiple enrolments, etc.).

No placement test is required for courses aimed purely at complete beginners (A1) (no prior knowledge required).

However, if you have previous knowledge of a foreign language, you must take a placement test. This applies to German as a Foreign Language (DaF), English, French, Italian, Russian and Spanish.

For all other languages, please contact the relevant lecturers regarding placement tests.

If you have no prior knowledge of the language, you do not need to take a placement test. In this case, please register for an A1 course.

Please note that most placement tests are only offered once a year. The results from last October remain valid. 

If you have already successfully completed a course with us, you are eligible for a course at the next higher (sub-)level. However, enrolment is not automatic; you must enrol yourself.

and email the lecturer to request a place. If a place is available, you will receive confirmation from the lecturer.

2. Once you have received confirmation from the lecturer, please enrol as an auditor: https://www.uni-erfurt.de/studium/vor-dem-studium/bewerbung-zulassung-einschreibung/zweithoerer and apply for access to the Moodle learning platform via rz@uni-erfurt.de.
