The award ceremony will take place on 19 March 2026 as part of the 75th anniversary celebrations of the iaelyon School of Management in Lyon and will honour his outstanding contributions to sociology, in particular his pioneering research on the phenomenon of social acceleration, which he analyses in relation to technological innovations, social changes and lifeworld rhythms. In addition, his sociology of world relations is honoured, in which he develops criteria for a good life with reference to resonance and unavailability. Hartmut Rosa's work has intensively revitalised the academic debate in France and provided new impetus beyond the social sciences.
The laudators are Professor Marie-Christine Chalus, Directrice Générale of the IAE Lyon School of Management, and Didier Vinot, Directeur Général Adjoint of the IAD Lyon School of Management at the University Jean Moulin Lyon 3. Following the ceremonial awarding of the honorary doctorate by the President of the University, Professor Gilles Bonnet, Hartmut Rosa will give a lecture on the topic "From Agency to Execution: The Atrophy of Discretion in Everyday Life".
