Enrolment in English Courses in Winter Semester 2026/27

Course places for English are allocated via the new course place allocation system (MOSES by MathPlan). When indicating course preferences, please make sure to distinguish between choices for students of English as their major or minor ('English Students') and those for all other students ('Other Students').

Students in their 3rd semester or higher who have already taken a placement test or successfully completed a language course at the University of Erfurt can log in hereusing their usual login details (Shibboleth) and indicate their course preferences from 01.10.2026 to 04.10.2026. Course places will be allocated on 06.10.2026, taking all submitted preferences into account. The allocation will be fair and independent of the time at which preferences are submitted, and the results will be published directly in MOSES. Once the results have been published, students can give up any course places they have been allocated but do not intend to use. These places can then be allocated again during the second allocation phase from 07.10.2026 to 08.10.2026. If no course places have been allocated, students will have another opportunity to indicate their preferences during this second phase. The results will be published on 09.10.2026. 

First-semester students and students in higher semesters who have not yet taken a placement test can indicate their course preferences from 07.10.2026 to 08.10.2026. To do so, they must take a placement test first. Placement tests will be from 06.10.2026 to 08.10.2026. Further information about the placement test can be found here.

Please do not contact lecturers during the registration periods about remaining course places.

Please also note that course places are not allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Places are allocated based on the preferences indicated during registration, with the aim of finding the best possible overall solution for all students while taking potential timetable conflicts into account. It is therefore not guaranteed that you will receive your first or second choice, particularly for highly popular courses. In addition, all language courses have a maximum capacity of 20 students. Some courses, such as Spoken American/British English, have an even smaller number of places.

Information and recommendations for students in the BA International Relations programme

Students must provide proof of English language proficiency at B2 level at the start of their degree programme. If this is not explicitly stated on the Abitur certificate, it must be proven via externally acquired international language certificates. To have your language certificate recognised, please send a copy of it via email to the Faculty of Economics, Law and Social Sciences:

Information and recommendations for students in the MA Applied Linguistics programme

Students on this degree programme must demonstrate English language proficiency at C1 level (reading and listening comprehension). We recommend participation in English courses to prepare for the C1 examination.
