Science of Stability: Law and History in the Thought of Samuel Pufendorf

“This project looks at the comprehensive work of Samuel Pufendorf (1632–1694), a scientific project that encompasses both natural law and history. This aims at an understanding of Pufendorf’s interests at a metatheoretical level, focussing on the questions and purposes that shaped his work. For Pufendorf, his reordering and restructuring of the traditional knowledge on human society, history, and law was a contribution to a stabilisation of the European political landscape.”
