UrbRel glossary

In January 2022, the UrbRel group was successfully evaluted by the German Research Foundation (DFG). As a result, we will continue to work for a second funding phase until 2026. During this time, we will continue within our chosen temporal and spatial framework of the first millennium BC until today in Europe, the Mediterranean and South Asia. We will also further develop and apply the UrbRel research programme, exploring the mutual formation of religion and urbanity as a fruitful perspective for research in the history of religion and urban history. We will do so by means of a more precise terminology as well as a research methodology complemented by processual concepts.

With an eye to this, we we are introducing the UrbRel glossary in order to recapitulate the reflections and theoretical tools identified in our discussions of the past years, always keeping in mind the reciprocal formation of religion and urbanity more generally. The first glossary entires were presented during the 2022 annual conference on urbanity. More have been added since then:

Citification
Heterarchy
Co-Spatiality
Co-Temporality
Mediation/Mediatisation
Religion
Religious and urban ambivalences
Spatialisation
Spatial Fix
Spatial Capital
Space/Place
Urbanity
