Information on the Selection Procedure

Details

To apply for the programme, please submit the following documents in one file (max. 10 MB) by the deadline indicated in the Call for Applications:

  • current CV
  • copies of your final school and university degrees
  • copy of MA or diploma thesis
  • letter of recommendation by an academic teacher
  • outline of the PhD project you would like to pursue (see also our showcases)

The IGDK specifically calls on female and diverse researchers to submit applications, especially after a phase of family duties.

The selection process is structured by the following steps:

  1. formal eligibility (excellent degree, exposé with relevance for the overall project, complete application files)
  2. reviews of the application by the faculty
  3. personal interviews with the faculty

Our selection criteria are:

  • excellence of the candidate (proven by timely completion of MA or similar degree, bearing in mind specific situations, i.e. childcare, chronical illness, second chance education etc.), a qualification degree with above-average results and proven qualification specific to the IGDK as well as high self-motivation and initial experience in academic work);
  • excellence of the dissertation project (regarding methodology, degree of innovation, the state of research and the time schedule), and
  • affinity to the IGDK, especially concerning interdisciplinarity.

The IGS does not accept unsolicited applications.

The Max Weber Centre for Advanced Cultural and Social Studies at the University of Erfurt invites applications in the subjects of Classical Philology, Music Education, North American and Modern History, Early Christianity, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Sociology, and Social Sciences, as well as related subjects within the framework of the International Graduate School (IGS) “Resonant Self-World Relations in Ancient and Modern Socio-Religious Practices” under the direction of Prof. Dr. Jörg Rüpke and Prof. Dr. Hartmut Rosa (Erfurt) and Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Spickermann and Prof. Dr. Ursula Gärtner (Graz), funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Austrian Research Council (FWF).
