Laureate 2022 Yulia Marfutova

This year, for the second time, a one-month scholarship for literary research will be awarded at the Gotha Research Library. It is endowed with 1,500 euros. The jury has decided in favour of the author Yulia Marfutova, who teaches in the USA. She was born in Moscow in 1988, studied German Studies and History in Berlin and completed her doctorate in Münster. She has received scholarships from the Brecht House and the Jürgen Ponto Foundation, the Berliner Festspiele masterclass and the Literary Colloquium Berlin. She now lives in Boston. Her debut novel "Der Himmel vor hundert Jahren" was longlisted for the 2021 German Book Prize. This year, she has already received the Debut Prize of the Buddenbrookhaus Lübeck and the Friedrich Hölderlin Prize of the City of Bad Homburg. For her current novel project, Yulia Marfutova would like to work primarily with the holdings of the emigrant letters collection at the Research Library and draw inspiration from correspondence from European emigrants to North America from around 1900.
