Research project

From Social Bonds to Resonance Theory: An Analysis of the Mutual Fulfillment of Needs

This project examines social relationships between social assistance recipients and social workers in Brazil and Germany, focusing on how the mutual fulfillment of needs contributes to the emergence of resonant relationships. Drawing on attachment theory, sociological approaches to social ties, and Hartmut Rosa’s theory of resonance, the study analyzes how institutional interactions shape experiences of recognition, security, and self-efficacy.

The main objective is to understand the role of mutual need satisfaction in the construction of successful or unsuccessful world relationships within welfare institutions and its consequences for recipients’ life conditions. The main research tries to answer the following question: what role does the mutual meeting of needs play in the development of successful versus unsuccessful interpersonal relations, and what other factors should be considered?

Methodologically, the project uses an interpretive and reconstructive approach based on biographical-narrative interviews with welfare recipients and focused interviews with social workers in Porto Alegre and Berlin. The analysis follows a comparative and reconstructive strategy.

The expected results include theoretical contributions to debates on social bonds and resonance, empirical insights into institutional relationship-building, and practical knowledge for improving social assistance practices.
