Further education and training for science administration staff

A high level of qualification and lifelong learning are in the common interest of employees and employers.

What is the difference between a business trip and a training trip?

Business trip

Business trips are trips to carry out official business away from the place of work. They may only be undertaken if they have been ordered or approved in writing beforehand. If business trips are undertaken without written authorization or instructions, this may result in the loss of claims for occupational accidents or accidents at work.

Training trip

Training trips are trips that staff members undertake after completing their training for further professional development or to expand their professional knowledge, skills and experience, to adapt to changed official requirements or to prepare for the performance of new or different tasks. 

Internal training and further education

University Computer and Media Centre

The University Computer and Media Centre offers further training courses in the office and IT area for employees and assistants with a minimum of 10 participants. You can use the e-learning platform Moodle E-Learning to register for the courses/topics you are interested in using your user name and password (university account).

The Thuringian Ministry of the Interior and Local Government offers an extensive annual training program for employees of the Thuringian state administration. Subject to availability, the events are also open to employees of the University of Erfurt. Seminars can be booked on the following topics:

Registration process

As registration must be made via the University of Erfurt's training officer, please send an e-mail to fortbildung@uni-erfurt.de at least 10 weeks before the start of the event if you are interested.

Please include the following information in your e-mail:

  • Seminar number
  • Title of the seminar
  • Date of the seminar
  • (if it is an event in Tambach-Dietharz, please also indicate whether you would like to use the officially provided overnight accommodation (including meals)

Important information:
Registrations with the TMIK are made without additional information to the employees by the training officer. If you do not receive an invitation/information, your registration could not be considered. Registration with the annual training program of the Thuringian Ministry of the Interior does not automatically guarantee participation, as seminar places are allocated to other state authorities with priority. Please note that your registration for a seminar is binding 6 weeks before the start of the seminar.

E-Learning Program

— German-language courses only — 

The e-learning program includes seminars on MS Office applications (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, MS OneNote) in various versions as well as seminars on fire safety, ergonomics and first aid. The individual e-learning seminars are made available via a provider as “web-based training”, i.e. accessible via a link, and can be completed directly at the workplace via individual access. Internet access and a work e-mail address are required. The online training is interactive and multimedia-based. It is important that the audio function can be activated on the PC.

Process flow for registration

Registration takes place via the training officer. If you are interested in one or a maximum of two events, please send an e-mail to fortbildung@uni-erfurt.de by April 9 at the latest.

Please include the following information in your e-mail:

  • Your contact details
  • Seminar number
  • Title of the seminar (and version for MS Office applications)

Important note:
The seminars must be worked on and completed independently in the period June 6 to septemner 30. Please note that you can only register if you have completed the seminars you applied for in 2024. Only ONE registration will be accepted for Office applications and a maximum of TWO registrations per person for the other learning units. If more licenses than the maximum number are requested for one person, these will be automatically canceled.

Please note that no funding for further training will be provided from the material resources of your own department! Employees are required to follow the official application procedure.

Applying for a training or further education trip

1. Application by the employee

  • Completing the application for a training trip (points 1 - 17)
  • Please check the correct box on the application (application for a training trip)
  • Please note point 10: Estimated total costs (participation fee/seminar fee, additionally planned accommodation and travel costs for face-to-face events)
  • Please note point 17: Your line manager will decide whether this is necessary
  • Completed and signed form in original + invitation/daily agenda/seminar contents by internal mail to department 5 (PF 41)

Please note the following due to the provisional budget:

  • Point no. 14 in the application: brief justification of the official, indispensable necessity
  • Item no. 20 in the application: final approval of the application by the Head of Administration

2. Review by the training team

  • After review by the training officer, your line manager will receive your application
  • Point 20: Signature of your line manager (final approval)

3. Registration by employee

The employee must register for further or advanced training. 

4. Invoice

As soon as you receive the invoice for your training or further education, send it to fortbildung@uni-erfurt.de or by internal mail (PF 41, Sachgebiet 5)

5. Working hours and travel expenses

Applying for further education or training (online)

1. Application by employee

  • Completing the application for online training (points 1 - 4)
  • Send the completed and signed form by email to fortbildung@uni-erfurt.de or by internal mail to department 5 (PF 41)
  • Briefly list the seminar content under point 3, if applicable

Due to the provisional budget, please note the following:

  • Point no. 3 in the application: brief justification of the official, indispensable necessity
  • Item no. 5 in the application: final approval of the application by the Head of Administration

2. Review by the training team

  • Your application will be reviewed by the training officer.
  • You will then receive information on approval

3. Registration by employee

The employee must register for further or advanced training. 

Invoice

As soon as you receive the invoice for your training or further education, send it to fortbildung@uni-erfurt.de or by internal mail (PF 41, Sachgebiet 5)

Qualification agreement

The costs of a training measure arranged by the employer - including travel expenses - are generally borne by the employer, provided they are entirely company-related and are not covered by third parties. Taking into account the company and individual benefits, a possible personal contribution can be regulated in a qualification agreement (Section 5 (6) TV-L).

Educational leave

Thüringer Bildungsfreistellungsgesetz

Thuringia has created an important prerequisite for the necessary acquisition of knowledge with the Education Leave Act. The Thuringian Education Leave Act (ThürBfG) came into force on January 1, 2016. Employees in Thuringia are entitled to take up to five days' leave per year from their employer for further training. The leave of absence is granted with continued payment of wages. Educational leave is known in other countries as “Bildungszeit”, “Bildungsurlaub” or “Arbeitnehmerweiterbildung”. The employee bears the costs of the training event themselves.

Applying for educational leave

  • Employees can select an offer from the “List of recognized educational events”.
  • Submission of the application to the responsible administrator, who checks and decides
  • Registration with the training provider by the employee
  • After a successful training event, the employee receives a certificate of attendance, copy to the person in charge and the training officer Educational leave in Thuringia
