Student representative councils

What are student representative councils, and who do they represent?

Subject Student Councils (FSR) are the elected student representative bodies within a specific subject or discipline. They champion the interests of students in their subject area and act as a vital link between students and the university.

Typical tasks include, for example:

  • representing students’ interests to lecturers and university bodies
  • Providing support with questions and issues relating to studies
  • Organising events, parties or other activities for students
  • Supporting first-year students as they begin their studies
  • Advocating for better study conditions
  • Informing students about important issues and changes

In principle, a student council represents the students who belong to its student body – that is, students of a specific subject, subject group or subject area. It therefore represents not only the members of a single student initiative, but the students of the entire student body.

Elections to the student council

Members of the student council are elected once a year directly by the students in the student body. Any student in the student body can stand for election. Get involved!
