When will the Master's thesis be written?

The Master's thesis is written in the 3rd or 4th semester of the Master of Education. The complex internship is completed in the respective other semester.

 

Is there an information meeting regarding the master's thesis?

You will receive all important information about the Master's thesis and the deadlines to be met during the STET information event of the ESE. The date for this event will be announced   on thehomepage in advance.

 

What do I need to consider regarding the topic?

Can the master's thesis also be done as a group thesis?

Yes, this is generally possible if this is requested accordingly on the application form. The written sections of the individual persons should be marked accordingly so that the personal contribution is clearly recognizable.

 

How do I register a master thesis? Do I have to enrol via E.L.V.I.S.?

You must register your topic, which you choose in accordance with your supervisor, by a set Deadline. You can find a description of the registration process here.

 

The MEd examination board decides on the acceptance or rejection of the submitted topic. You cannot enrol via E.L.V.I.S.!

What happens if I do not propose a topic and/or reviewers?

If you do not wish to make use of the option to propose a topic and/or reviewers, please submit the form without this information. In this case, you will be assigned a topic and/or reviewers by the examination board, taking into account your course of study. There is no provision for changing the topic. It is therefore recommended that you submit a topic proposal yourself and look for suitable supervisors.

 

What do I do if I missed the registration deadline?

The deadline is a limitation period. You can only apply again for the next semester.

 

How do I find out if my application was successful?

From the day of the issue of the topics, you can view the decision in your OnlinESE account and confirm that you have taken note of it. You will only receive an e-mail in the event of a rejection.

 

Can I still change my topic after the topics have been issued?

According to MEd-PO-R § 21 you have the possibility to withdraw your topic once within two months after the first day of the topic issue.

 

Who will support me in the process of writing the paper?

With your application for the issue of the topic you have the possibility to propose two reviewers. As a rule, the first reviewer is also the supervisor of the thesis. In addition, you are free to ask other experts to supervise your work. However, the thesis will be reviewed and evaluated solely by the two proposed reviewers.

How much time do I have to finish the thesis?

What do I do if I fall ill within the time period provided for writing the thesis?

In order to claim health-related absences while writing the thesis, you must make this credible with the form sick certificate for examinations.


You submit the original to the Registrar's Office.

If the inability to work or take exams is recognized and if it falls within the time period provided for writing the Master's thesis, this time period will be extended by the number days you were inable to work.

After the certificate has been accepted, you will receive an e-mail with the recalculated submission date.

How extensive should a Master's thesis be?

The MEd-PO-R § 21 specifies 15,000 words as a guideline. Discuss the concrete requirements with your reviewers before handing in your paper!

 

Where can I find the formatting specifications for the thesis?

There are no specific guidelines for the formatting of the paper. Therefore, discuss the requirements for font size, line spacing, and other formatting issues with the first reviewer.

 

What happens after the work is submitted?

The copies of the thesis are distributed to the two reviewers. According to MEd RPO §22(2), they will be given a period of 8 weeks after receipt for the written review of the thesis.


Once the chairperson of the examination board has received both reviews, the certificate of achievement will be issued and you will be notified by e-mail.
