Internationality

Internationality as a principle of MWK-FELLOWS programme

Since its foundation the Max-Weber-Kolleg Erfurt pursues an international strategy: Numerous, renowned senior researchers and junior researchers from abroad have been recruited as fellows and junior-fellows over the course of the last few years. Furthermore, the Max-Weber-Kolleg Erfurt is involved in scientific cooperation with different international research institutions.

Members and staff of the Max-Weber-Kolleg Erfurt have a lot of experience cooperating and collaborating with international fellows and consider an international atmosphere to be an important, fruitful and essential element of excellent scholarly discourse. Within the ‘Weberian’ research programme emphasis is put on interdisciplinary exchange, as well as cultural interconnection. Perspectives on the discussed problems from other cultural (and scientific-cultural) backgrounds can uncover culture-specific constrictions. As we have experienced in cooperation with international fellows in the past, this leads to an enhanced and enriched understanding and to better informed global approaches on the one hand and to culture-sensitive approaches on the other. For these reasons international expertise is especially relevant. MWK-FELLOWS programme aims at further development of internationalisation and international discourse.

The aim of the MWK-FELLOWS programme, co-financed by the European Union, is to increase the amount of international fellows, who have so far mostly been financed by the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and the Alexander von Humboldt-Foundation, to enhance its international standing. In doing so, the research environment provided to the MWK-Fellows will be marked by international and intercultural exchange. Furthermore international mobility will be supported through the option of research stays at international cooperating institutions and by providing funds for research related travel.
