UTBAS

Unhelpful thoughts and beliefs about stuttering: validation of the German translation of the Unhelpful Thoughts and Beliefs About Stuttering (UTBAS) scales for adults.

  • Duration: 03/2021-12/2022
  • Objective:
    1. Examination of the convergent validity of the German UTBAS scales using the "SozialePhobie-Inventar" (SPIN, German translation; Stangier & Steffens, 2002) and the "Fear of Negative Evaluation Kurzskala" (FNE-K; Reichenberger et al., 2015)
    3. Testing the discriminant validity of the German UTBAS scales using the "BeckDepressions-Inventar Revision" (BDI-II, German version; Hautzinger et al., 2006)
    4. Reliability analysis (test-retest reliability and internal consistency)
    5. Explorative factor analysis of the UTBAS scales.
  • Method:
Within the framework of the study, adults with stuttering symptoms (n = 100) are interviewed online or in person. Different assessments are used: German translation of the Unhelpful Thoughts and Beliefs About Stuttering Scales (UTBAS I, II, III), Social Phobia Inventory (SPIN), Fear of Negative Evaluation Short Scale (FNE-K) and BeckDepression-Inventar Revision (BDI-II). In order to investigate how reliably the German translation of the UTBAS scales measures the thoughts and attitudes of the test persons, some test persons will complete the UTBAS scales again one week after the first survey.
