Internships

Unterrichtssituation im Praktikum

Internships are a central element of the professional qualification in the first training phase of future teachers, which is the university education.

The internship concept of teacher training in Erfurt continuously combines theoretical and practical study components. This begins in the Bachelor's programs with observation, exploration and job shadowing internships and continues in the Master's programs with internships that focus on specific educational science and issues of subject didactics. All internships are mandatory components of modules and are theoretically prepared, accompanied and followed up in these modules.

The following overview shows which internships must be completed by students with the respective career goal in the Bachelor's and Master's program. All internships are mandatory.

It should be noted that internships completed in the Bachelor's programme are admission requirements for the subsequent Master's of Education programmes.

Information on the Measles Protection Act (Masernschutzgesetz) for the execution of school internships

The Measles Protection Act came into effect in Germany on 01.03.2020. The law is intended to contribute to the protection against measles and to strengthen vaccination prevention. As a student teacher (born in 1970 or later), you are required to provide proof of sufficient vaccination (at least 2 measles vaccinations) or sufficient immunisation against measles before starting an internship.

You can prove vaccination or immunisation to the school management with the following documents:

  • Vaccination documentation (vaccination card) or a medical certificate of sufficient vaccination against measles
  • medical certificate of immunity against measles
  • medical certificate on existing medical contraindication against measles vaccination
  • Confirmation from a government agency that appropriate proof has already been provided (e.g. confirmation from the management of another institution).

As a general rule, anyone who does not present proof of existing vaccination protection, immunity or contraindication may neither be supervised in the facility nor work in it. In this case, the school management will issue a ban from the premises.

For more information on how to deal with the Measles Protection Act, please visit the website of the  Thuringian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (TMBJS).
