Erfurt students can apply to become a part of the Jessup Moot Court Competition!

We are thrilled to announce that the University of Jena will once again be sending a team to the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition which will take place over the course of the winter semester 2024/25. This time, Erfurt students can also apply to become a part of the team.

The Jessup Competition is the most prestigious and well-known Public International Law Moot Court Competition worldwide. Jessup challenges participants to assume the role of legal counsel for two fictitious states involved in a dispute in front of the International Court of Justice (ICJ). This year’s case will concern traitors and crooks. It will raise issues related to the right to political expression, statelessness, the right to nationality, and the scope of the United Nations Security Council's authority in the pacific settlement of disputes.

The competition is held entirely in English and is a priceless opportunity to develop your research, legal writing, and public speaking skills and to connect with many people who share a passion for international law. Students should be able to focus on the competition for the full semester, without having disadvantages in their studies. Therefore, participation in Jessup can be acknowledged as several academic certificates, for example students can earn 24 ECTS by participating. The details are depending on the individual situation of the students.
