The Brandt School is pleased to welcome Nijmeh Ali, PhD as a visiting lecturer for the upcoming summer semester

Dr. Nijmeh Ali is a Fellow at the National Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Otago in New Zealand with a background in political science and sociology. She holds a PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies, and her research mainly focuses on political behavior in non-Western societies. At the Brandt School, Dr. Ali will be teaching the course “Immigration and Refugee Resettlement in Europe.”

Dr. Ali’s work challenges the classic liberal citizenship framework and examines activism within oppressed groups. Her research also examines the strategies and policies used by marginalized groups including women, minorities, refugees, and migrants to resist subjugation. Recently, she has shown interest in technology surveillance and its impact on political behavior. Dr Ali also offers political consultancy services on Middle Eastern politics.

This upcoming summer semester, Dr. Ali will be joining the Brandt School Team as a visiting lecturer teaching the course “Immigration and Refugee Resettlement in Europe” within the Conflict Studies and Management Specialization. The course will review and evaluate large scale issues and strategies around immigration and refugee resettlement to draw on best practices and lessons learned from international experience. Students enrolling in the course will develop the required analytical and process design skills to learn practices of immigration absorption and refugee resettlement in Europe through safe, ethical, and responsible practice principles, ensuring social integrity for both the migrating and absorbing communities.
